A domain name stays with you for ten years. It goes on your cards, gets said over the phone, gets typed into a message. Here is what we go through with our clients before deciding.
If you have to spell it twice, it is too long. Aim for three syllables, fifteen characters at most. The test: say it out loud and ask the other person to write it down.
A hyphen gets lost out loud and is awkward to type. A number always raises the same question: spelled out or as a digit? Both cost you visitors.
“cheap-restaurant-marrakech.ma” has not ranked anyone for years. Google ranks pages, not addresses. Use your business name.
In Morocco, your name travels both ways. Avoid anything that sounds wrong crossing from one language to the other, and check it does not mean something awkward in Darija.

Yes. For .ma and .co.ma we query the official WHOIS of the Moroccan registry (ANRT). For the other extensions, the relevant registry’s RDAP — the protocol that replaced WHOIS in 2023. These are the same sources a registrar uses. When a registry does not answer, we show “to be checked” rather than make an answer up.

If your customers are Moroccan, .ma is the reflex: it reassures and it counts on local searches. If you also target customers abroad, .com is still the universal extension. The safest route is to take both and point one at the other — the second costs almost nothing and stops a competitor from taking it.

A registration runs from one to ten years, renewable. As long as you renew, it is yours. If it expires, it becomes available again after a grace period — that is how names get lost, and it is why we track the renewal dates of the sites we host.
